EFFAT position on EU-origin marking scheme

23/06/2004

EFFAT sees primarily the need for the development of a social and sustainable labelling, guaranteeing the respect of social and environmental standards and adequate workers' working conditions. The working document presented by the Commission defines the EU marking scheme only as a marketing tool. However EFFAT considers that a "made in the EU" label could have some positive outcomes.

EFFAT is the European Federation of Food, Agriculture and Tourism Trade Unions. As a European Trade Union Federation representing 120 national trade unions from 35 European countries, EFFAT defends the interests of more than 22 million workers towards the European Institutions, European employers’ associations and transnational companies. EFFAT is a member of the ETUC and the European regional organisation of the IUF.
