Mediterranean Sea Tragedy: EFFAT calls for an EU - wide effective resolution to save lives and protect its sectors from social dumping and exploitation

Further to the increasing loss of lives of men children and women forced to exile in the Mediterranean Sea in recent years, EFFAT, the European Federation of Food Agriculture and Tourism Trade Unions has developed a 7 point resolution to establish an EU-wide effective strategy and urge the EU to revise its current approach to migration.
EFFAT feels particularly affected by this tragedy as many of the refugees that manage to arrive at the European shores likely provide cheap and vulnerable labor in the Agriculture and Tourism sectors, high risk of social dumping and exploitation by unscrupulous employers.
The resolution was approved on 6 May 2015 during the EFFAT Executive Committee Meeting in Brussels.

EFFAT is the European Federation of Food, Agriculture and Tourism Trade Unions. As a European Trade Union Federation representing 120 national trade unions from 35 European countries, EFFAT defends the interests of more than 22 million workers towards the European Institutions, European employers’ associations and transnational companies. EFFAT is a member of the ETUC and the European regional organisation of the IUF.
