IUF and EFFAT condemn UK govt's attack on union rights

IUF and  EFFAT have sent a joint letter to Employment Commissioner Thyssen to express their strong opposition to the UK government’s new Trade Union Bill to be discussed in the House of Parliament in autumn 2015.
If approved, the Bill will severely restrict the ability of trade unions and their members to exercise their functions, represent their members and take legitimate industrial action, all of which are basic rights protected under the ILO Convention, the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Social Charter.
IUF and EFFAT believe that there is no justification for further legislation in this area. On the contrary, the new legislation poses a serious threat to trade union governance and actions and will undermine constructive industrial relations by making it more difficult to achieve amicable settlements through effective negotiations in the future.
