As Brussels bombings hit the heart of Europe EFFAT mourns victims

Brussels, 22 March 2016 - Today several barbaric terrorist attacks hit Brussels, the capital of Europe, causing at least 31 deaths and 100 injured.

Today’s bombing hit Brussels international airport and Maelbeek metro station at the heart of the European headquarters, symbols of the values of free movement and circulation in Europe.

EFFAT headquarters in Brussels join the ETUC and the trade union movement across Europe in condemning the attacks and expressing solidarity with the victims' families.

EFFAT Secretary General Harald Wiedenhofer said that “Today’s bombings are deep wounds to the values of democracy, peace, social justice at the core of the EU project. These values are much stronger than any kind of terror. Today we are deeply saddened and our thoughts go out to all the victims of the attacks, their families, colleagues and friends”.
