Social Rights First | The Road to a more social Europe begins today

EFFAT is amongst the trade union organisations that support the ETUC campaign in the run up to the Gothenburg Social Summit on 17 November, the initiatives taken by trade unions to demand a concrete European Pillar of Social Rights that includes higher wages and improved living and working conditions for workers across Europe.

We urgently need to get started to ensure that the Pillar delivers a Better Europe for Working People!

The ETUC has identified 10 building blocks to turn the nice words in the European Pillar of Social Rights into real improvements in the lives of working people, including an EU action plan for implementation, new EU laws, investment and better EU economic policy that delivers social not just fiscal objectives.

From November 7th – 17th, the ETUC will run a coordinated social media campaign to #telljunckerEU about each of our building blocks, focusing on a different building block for each of the ten days in the lead up to the EU Social Summit in Gothenburg. A number of additional events in support of the 10 building blocks will be run with the assistance of affiliates, in particular the ETUFs.

The unions have launched a new website calling for a ‘A better Europe for working people: a stronger Pillar of Social Rights’.

Please join the campaign website and send a message to national leaders saying, “I want a better Europe for working people: a stronger #SocialPillar, more #SocialRights; #TellJunckerEU #SocialSummit17”.
